The pupils of Hounsdown School have created a dramatic reconstruction of a Spitfire crash in the corner of Castle Vault. Visually recalling Roy Lichtenstein’s famous Whamm! painting, this piece appears as a freeze frame in time. Whilst not representing a specific incident, it vividly brings to life a dramatic scene featuring the plane which played such a major part in the history of Southampton.
Joint entry by year 10 students Lewis Jones and Abigail Davis, Hounsdown School, Totton. Supported by the rest of their art class, the students have responded to the vault's war-time history and the city's aviation heritage.
